Campus is just a 30-minute walk away, and we have a range of rooms reserved exclusively for you, which you can book on the UCFB website. Both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University are also close by and can be reached in 15 minutes by foot.

Choose to be one of the 712 students living here and you’ll be able to pick from a range of en-suite accommodation. Each room gives you the privacy of your own bathroom and comes with a spacious study desk and plenty of storage. When you’re ready to show off your cooking skills, head to the fully-fitted kitchen and living area that’s shared between your flatmates.

Elsewhere in Mill Point you’ll find comfortable common areas with air hockey, foosball and a video game area - perfect for some healthy competition among neighbours. When the sun is shining, you’ll also be able to make the most of the outdoor courtyard, which even comes with its very own BBQ area.

If you enjoy live shows, comedy, gigs and concerts, the Manchester Arena is the major gig venue in the city – less than 10 minutes’ car ride away. There are loads of others though, no matter what you’re into, and to name but a few there’s Manchester Academy, Sound Control and the Apollo – all a stone’s throw from Mill Point.

When it comes to shopping, Manchester certainly does it well; the centre offers an extensive range of high street, boutiques and designer shops. Manchester is home to large department stores; Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, and House of Fraser. You really shouldn’t avoid a visit to the Trafford Centre (one of the largest indoor shopping centres in Europe). It’s a 25 minute taxi ride, just out of the city centre.

Something to look forward to is the ‘Pangaea’ festival which is run twice a year by the University of Manchester Students Union. The festival is a large celebration marking the end of exams – featuring famous guests. Other seasonal attractions include; Manchester’s Christmas Markets (some of the best in the UK) featuring ice skating and hundreds of quaint stalls.

The hugely famous Parklife Festival also runs each year and is 10 minutes away from the residence.

For something more cultural, visit the Manchester Museum; 15 minutes’ walk from Mill Point and run by the University of Manchester. Its free entry and displays works of archaeology, anthropology and natural history.

If you like to keep fit, there are many gyms close by which offer student discounts and great rates. The nearest gym to the accommodation is Bannatynes on Whitworth Street – 10 minutes’ walk away. Additionally there is a PureGym on Great Ancoats Street – 15 minutes’ walk from Mill Point.

Fancy splashing around? You can dive right in at the Aquatics Centre, which is located less than a 5 minute walk from the residence. It features an Olympic sized swimming pool which was used during the Commonwealth Games, so you’re in the right place for all things water related.

Alternatively, there are plenty of open spaces located south of Manchester if you like running or jogging. Why not try the weekly Park Run at Hulme Park? It’s free and only 10 minutes from Mill Point. At just a hop, skip and a jump away, you’ve got no excuse not to challenge your flatmates to a race!

The big question on everyone’s lips in Manchester is; ‘are you red or are you blue?’ There’s plenty of friendly rivalry as both Manchester United and Manchester City Football Clubs are based in the city. Old Trafford (Manchester United’s ground) is approximately 30 minutes bus ride away and Etihad Stadium (Manchester City’s ground) is around 15 minutes away by bus. You should leap at the chance to see a derby game – the atmosphere is electric, but you could cut the tension with a knife!

Mill Point is located a few moments away from Manchester Piccadilly train and bus station, making popping home on the weekends an easy task. The city is well served by bus, train and tram and Manchester is just over 1 hour away from Newcastle, and 2 hours away from London.

The bus system in the city is cheap and reliable; you’ll find a free bus shuttle system which runs through the city centre and buses numbers 1&3 and go to all main spots in and around the city centre.

For a cheaper alternative, the National Express and the Megabus serve Manchester and go to many UK destinations for a low priced reasonable fare.

The city also has a lack of hills, which means walking and cycling around can be done simply.

For those who live outside the UK; Manchester International Airport is a 20 minute drive away, just south of the city. The airport offers a range of widespread routes across the world.
